We typically focus on all things women’s health and wellbeing here, but in recognition of “Movember,” I thought we’d take a beat to talk about some ways to better support the health of the guys we love! Most of us have at least one important man in our lives – our husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, friends, etc. who we want to live healthy, thriving and long lives too! The first step in caring for those who mean the most to us is education, so here’s the low-down on this “Movember” you may have heard referenced before… hint: it really is more than just putting up with extra facial hair for a month ;) .
You’ve heard of “Movember” – but what is it!? Per the Movember Foundation’s website movember.com, “Movember” was officially launched in 2003 by two friends in Melbourne, Australia who decided to gather men to grow mustaches with the purpose of raising awareness for prostate cancer. The movement grew quickly to include New Zealand, Spain and the UK in 2005, and then Canada and the USA in 2007. It has since grown to include 21 countries and raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the following causes:
Statistically, men die 5 years earlier than women, “for largely preventable reasons,” per movember.com. Mental health is unfortunately a big chunk of that reason. Did you know that 75% of suicides are by men? The Movember site recommends the following ALEC for checking in with the men in your life: A – Ask how he’s feeling. L – Listen to his response and follow up with more questions. E – Encourage actions to help him feel better. C – Check-in regularly to show you care. What you need to know about prostate cancer: Prostate cancer affects only males and is the 2nd leading cancer for men. Men are more at risk if they are African American or if someone else in their family has or has had prostate cancer. Similar to many cancers, the key to survival is early detection. However, symptoms can often go unnoticed or be non-existent. Because of this, anyone with a prostate should begin being testing at age 50, or 45 if they have either higher risk factor. The test is a simple blood test. Some symptoms to watch for:
What you need to know about testicular cancer: Testicular cancer is far less common than prostate cancer, but is most likely to affect younger white men (age 15 to 39). Other risk factors can include family history of testicular cancer, abnormal development and an undescended testicle. Men can perform routine self-examinations similar to how women perform breast checks to detect changes and irregularities in their breasts. Find your community – those with shared experience, those with similar goals and values, those who inspire and motivate you. Find. Those. People. Whether you are focused on your business, career, health and wellness, motherhood, local community, or something else – there is a community out there for you. Building your network will empower you by allowing you to dive deeper into your passions, gain purpose, and discover opportunities to serve and be served. Pursue Your Passions What are you passionate about? What lights your fire? It might be your career, a hobby, a cause that you feel strongly about. Whatever those things are for you, follow them now, don’t wait! Engaging in activities you're passionate about can boost your energy levels and enthusiasm. This heightened energy can spill over into other areas of your life, making you feel more vibrant and empowered overall. Pursuing your passions allows you to express yourself authentically. Having a passion gives you a sense of purpose and direction in life. It can provide clarity about your values and what truly matters to you, empowering you to make choices aligned with your purpose. Take Initiative Here’s a hard truth for you – no one else in this world is going to fight for your dreams and goals. That responsibility is solely yours, and no one else really cares whether you do or don’t. Opportunity is not going to come knocking on its own. You have to go find it. You have to take initiative to own your life. Initiating action and taking responsibility for your choices can boost your self-confidence. As you see the positive outcomes of your actions, you develop a stronger belief in your abilities and judgment. Gain Financial Independence Here is a big one. You may not be in this position at this very moment, and that is OKAY! It’s a goal to strive for in order to empower yourself to live the life you desire. Also, financial independence doesn’t have to mean being extremely wealthy. It just means that you possess the ability to provide for your needs and the needs of those who depend on you. Financial independence provides you with the freedom to make choices based on your preferences and values rather than financial constraints. You can pursue the career you want, live where you choose, and make lifestyle decisions without being limited by financial considerations. And that is empowering AF. Remember that empowerment is an ongoing process. It's about continuously evolving, learning, and growing into the best version of yourself. Build Your Authentic Brand4/12/2023 What does your brand say about you and your business?
How did you come up with your current branding? Is your brand consistent? These are all questions you should be asking yourself regularly; both, when you are building a new business from scratch and as your business grows and changes. Your brand is your first impression, your calling card, your reputation, and the way you represent yourself and your business to the world. To put it lightly… it matters. Anyone who has followed me over the last year or two… hell, even longer than that, but especially over the last year, will have noticed that my brand has changed DRAMATICALLY… multiple times. There has been a reason and strategy for each and every change; but also, many of my previous brand designs were born from a place of misguidance and focusing on the wrong things. If I’m being honest, I have come to realize that my past business brands have failed to align who I am with the business I have built. With that in mind, I’d like to save you some of the growing pains, mistakes, and hardships that I have been through. Don’t get me wrong, growing pains and mistakes are part of the process. Successful businesses change and stretch as they need to, but I’m going to share some truths I have learned about building a successful, authentic brand. My hope is that they empower you and save you a few misguided steps along the way. Vulnerability is Empowerment Your story is your superpower. I’ll say it again and again and again. Creating an authentic brand begins with embracing your authentic self and telling your story. And that includes showcasing yourself in your brand. Your brand and messaging should reflect who you are, why you do what you do, and how you got here. You’ve probably heard of the “know like trust (KLT) factor” marketing concept. Basically, your goal through marketing is to gain your audience’s KLT. Well, people are more apt to like, trust, and want to get to know others who are relatable. Which is why vulnerability, though scary at first, is empowering when building your authentic business. It will help you to develop trust, demonstrate passion, and build credibility. The Riches Are in the Niches Many business owners, especially those who are just starting to build a customer base, desire to build a brand that speaks to everyone. They just want to sell and they don’t care to whom. What they don’t realize, however, is that a brand that speaks to everyone is a brand that truly speaks to no one, and definitely not an authentic brand. If this is you, your fear of pushing some people away is what’s stopping you from attracting your ideal customer. Read that again. If you’re hesitant to really step into your authentic self and your authentic business, you’re missing out on your people. Get to know your target audience, their specific needs, struggles, preferences, and what motivates them. Determine who your people are, who you want to work with, and build your brand and messaging to speak directly to them without fear of “turning off” those who aren’t a good fit. If you’re working through this, don’t feel bad. It took me a really long time to get to where I am today with a super authentic brand. Intentionality is Key Build your brand around what feels authentic to you AND what will resonate with your target audience. Once you get to know yourself, your brand, and your target audience, be intentional about staying on-brand. When people think of you, you want them to immediately picture your branding, who you are, and what you do. For example, I don’t want people to hear Lucie Mitchell and think, “that sounds familiar… she’s that gal who runs some kind of online business.” No, I make it a point to make waves. So that when people hear Lucie Mitchell, they think “that badass bitch who speaks her mind and helps other badass bitches elevate their businesses.” That’s not everyone’s cup of tea… but it attracts my people. Messaging is Everything Speaking of familiarity, you want to make sure your messaging is crystal f*ing clear. You don’t want someone seeing your posts, visiting your website, and coming away questioning what exactly you do. What is the point of that?! Your brand and messaging should clearly communicate who you help and how you help them. I’ll use myself as an example again. I used to post everything all the time. We all know the extreme pressure to pump out content on a ridiculous level, so I thought I’d just post whatever came to mind: products I loved, workout inspiration, business inspiration, daily thoughts, etc. …no strategy whatsoever. As long as I have content to post, it doesn’t matter, right? Wrong. So wrong! Now, my messaging is everything. There is strategy behind my website, content posted, everything that is attached to my brand has a purpose. And that purpose is clearly stated: Elevated business strategy for captivating entrepreneurs. At the end of the day, here’s what I want you to know. Most people think of branding as a fun step in their business that doesn’t really matter or require strategy, and that mindset is just missing the mark. First thoughts when it comes to branding is often: colors, fonts, logo, mood board… and that is part of it! But it’s only part of it. The more important part is the strategy behind it; speaking to your ideal client, being true to your authentic self, determining your message, and being consistent. Top 5 Dallas-Fort Worth Date Spots4/5/2023 As you may have gathered if you follow me, AT ALL… my husband and I are in f*cking love with our new home, what feels like our always-meant-to-be home, TEXAS, Ya’ll! From the gorgeous weather, to a more like-minded community, we have felt welcomed in a way that we could have only dreamed of - and more! We are so appreciative for the opportunities our life in Texas has brought, and man… I could not have imagined the GROWTH we have experienced over the last year.
A couple unexpected ways we’ve grown since being here are these: combining our businesses in a way we hadn’t previously thought of, and with that (along with our new community), a serious growth in our relationship. The food isn’t the only thing that’s gotten spicier since our move… if ya know what I mean ;) . While thinking on all this lately, I thought, what better way to celebrate my appreciation than to share our top 5 date spots in our ‘hood, the Dallas-Fort Worth area! From fresh cocktails to amazing eats and fun activities we’ve found while spending quality time together – here are our faves! Bob’s Steak and Chop House Bob's Steak and Chop House in Dallas, TX is a well-regarded steakhouse known for its high-quality cuts of beef, elegant atmosphere, and friendly staff. They have been serving the Dallas community since 1993 and have since grown to 14 locations across the southern US! The menu focuses primarily on steak, but also offers seafood options, salads, sides, and desserts. We love this place for a date night because of the impeccable service, and even better food! It’s great for romantic evenings out, but would also be a great spot for special occasions and business dinners. This restaurant has an upscale ambiance with white tablecloths and dark wood accents. If you are looking for a classic, high-end dining experience with excellent steak and attentive service in Dallas, TX, Bob's is definitely worth a visit! 1845 | Taste Texas If you want to REALLY know you’re in Texas, you have to try 1845! A “modern steakhouse” that offers a unique dining experience showcasing the flavors of Texas. The restaurant's name is a nod to the year that Texas became a state. Walking in the doors, you’ll find modern-rustic décor. It has an upscale feeling, yet still relaxed and casual, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. We love that this place uses many locally sourced ingredients, including beef, seafood, and seasonal produce. The restaurant also offers a selection of Texas craft beers, wines, and specialty cocktails to pair with the dishes. We highly recommend 1845 for solo date night or happy hour cocktails with a group! Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille Perry's Steakhouse & Grille is a well-known fine dining restaurant in Dallas, TX that specializes in steaks, seafood, and elegant cocktails. The restaurant has a classic, swanky ambiance with stunning views of the city, beautiful outdoor space, and an impressive wine wall. You might be seeing a trend here… we love each other, our city… and a good steak ;) ! The menu at Perry's Steakhouse features a wide variety of cuts of beef, as well as seafood dishes - including sushi. If you’re into wine, this is your place, they have an extensive wine list with over 3000 bottles from around the world, and the restaurant is also known for its creative cocktails, such as the popular "Basil Lemon Drop" and "Smoky Rita". We love Perry’s for a nice lunch or dinner where we can relax, enjoy fabulous food and great drinks! Top Golf Our membership at Top Golf has been well used! We love this place for a date, an outing with friends or family, or a place to get out of our home office and have some fun while still getting some work done! There are locations in nearly every city, but for those who may be unfamiliar, Top Golf features elements of golf, dining, and socializing. In addition to the high-tech driving range, they also offer a variety of games, including virtual golf, billiards, and shuffleboard, as well as multiple bars and restaurants that serve a variety of food and drink options. We love this venue for its fun and lively atmosphere! With both indoor and outdoor hitting bays, which are equipped with TVs, comfortable seating, and climate control for year-round enjoyment. If you are looking for a unique and entertaining way to spend an afternoon or evening in Dallas, TX, Top Golf is a great option! Gloria’s Latin Cuisine Gloria's Latin Cuisine offers a unique blend of Latin American and Tex-Mex cuisine, with a focus on fresh ingredients and bold flavors. The ambiance is casual and lively, with colorful decor and a festive atmosphere. The menu at features a variety of dishes, including ceviche, empanadas, tacos, and enchiladas. Additionally, they offer a wide selection of margaritas and other cocktails to complement the food. We love Gloria’s for its delicious unique food and great service! It’s perfect for a casual lunch or dinner, as well as for happy hour and weekend brunch. So, those are our favorites! I started my podcast just over one year ago now, and let me tell you it was one of my best business decisions yet! Fiercely Bold with Lucie Mitchell was something I dreamed of creating for 5 years – once I began hitting record, the only regret I had was that I didn’t start sooner!
So, if you’re like me and you’ve been asking yourself if you should start a podcast for too long, the answer is YES… do the damn thing! Podcasting is undeniably one of the best ways to develop and grow brand awareness, tell your story, foster relationships, increase your confidence, and position yourself as an authority in your field. There are over 464 million podcast listeners worldwide as of last month, and that number is only growing. Your target audience is out there listening. You and your business need to get in on that opportunity! Allows the Opportunity to Tell Your Story If you follow me on social media, or see any of my content, you know I’m all about telling your story… getting vulnerable and being authentic. When you visit my website or social media, you’ll notice I share all about how I got where I currently am, how and why I began serving women in business the way that I do. I’m an open book, ya’ll! But no website copy or photo caption can convey who I am better than hearing it in my own voice – for that you have to listen to my podcast! People are curious! The average customer desires to know someone before trusting them with their hard-earned cash for products or services. Podcasting provides a perfect opportunity to be real, raw, and share your message. With no camera in your face, you’ll feel much more empowered to share your heart, knowledge, and experience while being your most authentic self. Cultivates a More Meaningful Relationship with Your Audience As I mentioned above, if someone is following you – seeing your posts, reading your blog, subscribing to newsletters, watching your videos - they likely want to know you more. Podcasting opens up the doors to your life, wisdom, and experience that creates a much more meaningful relationship than “that lady I see on IG.” Speaking to your audience in this way allows them to feel they are peering behind the curtain of who you are. Hearing your voice instills a feeling of closeness that other platforms cannot. As you provide real life experiences, education on topics related to your field, and recommendations, you position yourself as a trusted source. Meaning they are more likely to seek you out when they are looking for information, education, and yes, even products and services related to the subject(s) you speak on. Boosts Your Confidence in Talking about Your Expertise Listen, I know and you know that you KNOW your sh*t when it comes to that thing you do. You’re an expert in your field, and you have tonsss of knowledge and experience to offer. However, it’s common to get that deer-in-the-headlights feeling when you’re put on the spot. What better way to gain experience talking about your area of genius than in the privacy of your own home (car, office, closet, whatever), with the comfort of knowing you can start over or redo however many times it takes until it’s perfect? Builds Brand Authority Along with your ability to gain experience and confidence speaking on the topics of your profession, you get to publish those carefully crafted messages to boost your brand authority. As you publish more episodes and begin to build an audience, more people will look to you as a credible source for information on the areas you speak on. It’s Easy & FREE You can start a podcast today for exactly 0 dollars and 0 cents. Sure, there are fancy microphones and equipment; but, none of that is necessary, especially right out the gate. If you have a smart phone and access to the internet and Google, you already have what it takes to start a podcast for free! Listen, we both know you have lots to say about what you do. You could sing it from the rooftops. Don’t doubt for one minute that the unique knowledge and experience you have is valuable as hell, and there are people who would love nothing more than to hear from you. St. Patrick’s Day Traditions3/17/2023 A Brief History
It’s almost St. Paddy’s Day, me lucky charm! Summon the luck o’ the Irish by learning o’ bit about its origin, and you may even discover a new tradition to try at the end! The celebration of Irish heritage that we now know today has changed a lot since its earliest beginnings. It started as a religious holiday to celebrate Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, who died on March 17 th in the fifth century. Annually, on the day of his death; which lands in the middle of Lent, the Irish would attend church, then celebrate afterward with feasting, drinking, and dancing - setting aside the rules of Lent for the day. However, it began as more of a church-centered family celebration. Not the kind of partying and debauchery that we now know and love! Interesting Facts
Unique Traditions Everyone has heard of drinking green beer, attending a parade, wearing green, and eating corned beef (or bacon) and cabbage. We know that we must pinch anyone silly enough not to wear green, and to watch out for leprechaun pranks. Here are a few more (maybe new) ideas for your St. Paddy’s Day celebrations: 1. Drowning the Shamrock Get your luck by drowning the shamrock! Finish your night by drowning a shamrock in a glass of whiskey (or drink of your choice). Toast to the patron saint, down the drink, then toss the plant over your left shoulder. 2. Wear Blue Get back to the traditional roots by donning blue instead of green! St. Patrick himself is said to have worn blue, thought to pay homage to the original Irish coat of arms. But be warned, you might get pinched! 3. Stay Sober Honor the original celebration by staying dry on March 17th. Then again, unless you don’t drink at all ever… what fun is that, really? 4. Take the Day Off Did you know in Ireland, St Patrick’s Day is a national bank holiday? Meaning most businesses and places of work are closed. Except of course, the pubs and restaurants that were once forced to close in recognition of this day. Many business owners don’t completely understand or grasp the meaning and benefits of having a Public Relations team. Some wonder if their business is ready for PR services, and my answer 95% of the time is YES! Chances are, you and your company could absolutely benefit from more media exposure.

Media Exposure Benefits & Distinctions Here are some of the ways we get our clients in the media and in front of their target audience: Television Who doesn’t want to be on TV?! I mean, you might not if you’re the type of person to feel stage fright. HOWEVER, you should still embrace any television opportunity, because it’s great exposure for your business. It shows that your business is not only relevant, but furthermore positions you as an authority in your area. An article will boost your general presence online, and supports your search engine optimization (SEO). When someone searches your name or company name online, more hits are always a good thing for you. More content for your brand online = increased visibility and searchability. Podcasting How many podcasts are you subscribed to? How many episodes do you listen to in a week? If your answer is none… you might be the only one. I’m not sure about you, but everyone I know AND their grandmas have a least one or two podcasts they love. Why? In my opinion, it’s because there is such variety. There is something for everyone. Want to get your news from a reliable source? Podcast. Want to learn something about… anything? Podcast. Have a super niche subject you want to deep dive? Podcast. Anyone can start one. It’s open to whoever has something they’d like to talk about. Due to its niche nature, it’s simple to FIND and reach your target audience. The audience of any given podcast is made up of mostly like-minded loyal listeners. Providing you the opportunity to gain exposure to exactly the audience you want. Many podcast hosts are always looking for more content and relevant people to interview for their show, and the content is there permanently. It’s not like radio or television, where it’s there and then gone. Episodes remain on the platform for eternity, as far as we know. Plus, similarly to television and radio personalities, people know and trust their favorite podcast hosts. Radio In a world of social media domination and rising podcast numbers, some people seem to be under the impression that radio is a tool of the past. I would quickly argue that those people are vastly mistaken. Radio, like newspapers and other forms of media, has been forced to adapt to the current landscape and the way in which people get their entertainment and news – by moving much of their content online as well as over the traditional radio waves. Think of popular radio hosts like Joe Rogan and Howard Stern. They, along with their well-known shows are far from suffering. They have however, adapted. Much of radio is moving toward something more like “live podcasting”. And there are plenty of faithful listeners – many of which even happily pay for SiriusXM subscriptions. Similar to TV and podcast exposure, radio exposure allows you to be introduced directly to your listeners as an authority figure. It’s another avenue to find your target audience, and become a familiar figure with the backing of a host they know and respect. Summing it all Up At the end of the day, each person, company, and/or business is going to have unique media needs. That’s my job as a Public Relations and branding specialist – to help you discover what would be best for you. Your needs are going to be based on where your ideal client is hanging out, what are they listening to, reading, watching, etc. If you are represented in high regard on a platform, whether that be audio, visual, or print, by a news source that your potential customers already trust, it will in turn help you to gain their confidence as well. This type of exposure, via the media, has other benefits as well. It allows you the opportunity to meet and make valuable, mutually beneficial connections with people in the media. They need content to provide their viewers, listeners, and readers. And you need the exposure to your potential clients. Also, the ability to add an “As Seen In” page or section to your website allows you to share their content, and earn credibility, reputation, and authority.
